Metolius Count 2024 Report

 

On Saturday July 13, Sue Anderson led the 39th annual Metolius Butterfly Count in the Deschutes National Forest near Camp Sherman. On this unusually hot day (reaching a high of 100 degrees!), 14 people walked around different areas in our count circle, counting 656 individual butterflies of 42 species. The number of Sylvan Hairstreaks (7) was a record high; other species were found at average levels.  See complete list below:
